Procedure Description

CEREC is literally a revolution in prostheses: it allows medical specialists to prepare, in their very clinic, implants that used to be solely of the realm of dental laboratories and for which there used to be several days or even weeks of waiting.

CEREC combines the most modern information technologies with computer-controlled (CNC) milling. An oral scanner takes the necessary images of the tooth. These images are digitally transferred to a powerful computer, which carries out three-dimensional modelling operations (CAD and CAM) under the supervision of a medical specialist. After the completion of the model, data are sent over to a dental CNC mill, which, in turn, will model a ceramic bloc to the desired shape within a few minutes. The ceramic material is then bound to the tooth with an adhesive, so as to form a single whole with an absolutely natural appearance. This entire process lasts no more than 60 minutes!

Thanks to the CEREC system, we are able to carry out:
- The reconstruction of damaged teeth (inlays, ceramic fillings)
- Tooth replacements or crowns (onlays, where ceramic is fully substituted to the entire biting surface)
- Veneers (ceramic layers used to correct the shape and colour of the teeth)

Inlays and onlays (also known as overlays) are used to remedy the most extensive types of cavities. After a cavity is removed, the CEREC system is used to prepare a new ceramic filling of exactly matching dimensions, within a micrometer. The inlay is then bound to the original tooth or its remaining part using an adhesive. This system is a substitute to large fillings and implant completion. The entire process can be carried out during a single consultation, without taking any dental impressions. The treated tooth can be immediately exposed to unlimited stress.
