Laparoscopic adjustable gastric band

The main principal of the operation is in a surrounding of the utmost part of the stomach by a silicon band which has an inflatable balloon. Gastric banding is performed using laparoscopic surgery and usually results in a shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, smaller scars, and less pain than open surgical procedures. Because no part of the stomach is stapled or removed, and the patient's intestines are not re-routed, he or she can continue to absorb nutrients from food normally. Gastric bands are made entirely of biocompatible materials, so they are able to stay in the patient's body without causing harm. Gastric band has long-lasting effect.

Sleeve gastrectomy (gastric sleeve)

Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples) to form a sleeve or tube. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach. It means that the stomach can hold around 100 - 150 ml. The procedure is performed laparoscopically and is not reversible. This procedure is suitable for patients who had the BMI over 40.

Laparoscopic greater curvature plication (LGCP or gastric wrap)

Gastric wrap is a less invasive alternative to weight loss procedures. In this procedure is one side of the stomach folded and fastened. Folds reduce the volume of the stomach (volume of food that can be hold). The advantage is that the stomach is not cut only sewn into a small tube shape. It reduces the risks of complications associated with other treatment. Possible weight loss: approximately 50% excess body weight the first year, 63% by the end of the second year.

Intragastric balloon (BIB)

Intragastric balloon involves placing a deflated balloon into the stomach, and then filling it to decrease the amount of gastric space. The balloon itself does not make the patient slim. It occupies the stomach and helps the patient to make the portions of meal smaller. The BIB system in the principle helps the patients to change the dietary and behavioural manners and keep the required reduction diet. The balloon can be left in the stomach for a maximum of 6 months. As the physiological response of the patient to the presence of the intragastric balloon is individual, the prediction of particular weight loss is about 10 – 20 kg.
